Job Description

Why the role?

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join our national Client team. This role can be performed from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide.  You will enjoy peer support, working alongside another Business Development Manager with a similar portfolio and a Marketing Infrastructure Manager and you will be supported by two BD&M Coordinators and a Digital Marketing & Events Coordinator. You will report to a Senior Business Development Manager and work closely with the Chief Client Officer, who is also a member of our firm’s Executive Team, to drive client relationships and revenue growth across the business.

We are looking for someone with a collaborative approach, personal drive and exceptional business development skills to support the firm’s ambitious growth plans.

If this sounds like you, your duties will include:

  • Working alongside principals and senior lawyers to develop and deliver strategic plans to drive profitable growth across a portfolio of practice areas and client teams, in line with the firm’s broader strategy. This will include opportunities for direct client engagement, client listening, the development of integrated thought leadership campaigns (as well as measure return on investment) and innovate our CX offering more generally.
  • Maintaining market knowledge of your portfolio areas and any others relevant to the various groups and teams you support to allow you to best support them in the development and delivery of a compelling strategy.
  • Working closing with our colleagues in the People team to develop and deliver the firm’s first alumni offering, to both Australian and London based alumni.
  • Managing and developing quality and strategically targeted tender responses, presentations and capability statements.
  • Coaching and guiding lawyers and principals to build their BD skills in keeping with the firm’s culture of BD.
  • Managing and supporting direct report/s and junior team members in their professional development.
  • Contributing to the ongoing learning and development of the Client team.

Desired Skills and Experience

Who are you?

  • You have at least 5 years business development experience from a professional services firm, including leading or developing service line business plans and high-value proposal development.
  • You are familiar with the insurance industry (this is useful, but not essential).
  • You have experience working with and influencing senior stakeholders for strategic business outcomes.
  • You have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, adept at managing multiple stakeholders, evolving priorities, and tight deadlines.
  • You have the ability to switch between detail and the bigger picture.
  • You have a commercial mindset with a focus on client satisfaction.
  • You are self-motivated, able to work at pace and hungry to provide excellent service
  • You have great people skills and an ability to work well in a team environment
  • You will have a healthy degree of autonomy and possess a ‘self-starter’ attitude who loves a challenge.
  • You hold tertiary qualification in Marketing, Comms, Law, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.

Candidates can request reasonable adjustments for any part of the recruitment process. If you need any specific adjustment, please contact our People team so we can work together to support you.

We encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to First Nations, LGBTIQA+, persons with disabilities, as well as individuals of all ages, and cultures. We're a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace and celebrate the diversity of our people.
