Paralegal

About us

Gilchrist Connell is a dynamic and forward-thinking insurance law firm with offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

Job Description

Why the role?

To meet the needs of our growing firm, a fantastic opportunity has arisen in our Perth office for a Paralegal (full time or part-time) to join our Perth team.

Here, you will be exposed to a variety of insurance matters with a focus on:

  1. CTP (compulsory third party) motor vehicle personal injury insurance, primarily supporting a sub-team of CTP lawyers led by our principal Lotta Noel; and
  2. workers’ compensation claims, working closely with our special counsel Ellie McGrory and principal John-Paul Wilson.

Our CTP and workers’ compensation teams are supportive and skilled, with a wealth of experience within the insurance area. We handle a wide variety of litigated and non-litigated matters every day, ranging in complexity from basic quantum claims to complex large loss claims or those where liability is in issue.

As our paralegal, your duties will include:

  • Assist our Perth office with management of litigated and non-litigated CTP and workers’ compensation matters.
  • Prepare briefs to medical experts, discovery of documents and the giving of inspection.
  • Review, draft and file documents (including court documents, chronologies, witness statements and correspondence).
  • Engaging and liaising with investigators.
  • File management, including diarising and monitoring client deadlines, court timetables/orders, and other important dates.
  • Liaise with clients (particularly the Motor Injury Insurance (MII) Division of the Insurance Commission of Western Australia), expert witness providers and legal representatives.
  • Prepare settlement documents for workers’ compensation claims.
  • Depending on your skill and experience, you may also be asked to assist with review and analysis of medical and financial records and other relevant evidence, and to prepare draft chronologies, concise summaries, routine reports and updates to our client.

You will be supported and encouraged to grow in your role. For the already experienced candidate, or once you master the day-to-day tasks and are ready to further your skills, there is opportunity to assist with more complex tasks or on large loss matters involving catastrophic injury and/or fatal accident (dependency) claims.

Desired Skills and Experience

Who are you?

  • Relevant prior paralegal CTP experience is desirable.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong organisational and time management skills and an ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent clear and concise writing skills.
  • You’re self-motivated, able to work at pace and hungry to solve problems and cultivate quality relationships with clients.
  • You have great people and communication skills, and work well in a team environment.
